💻 2015 Dell Latitude E7240 (Linux Fedora 37) Laptop

This is a small and lightweight laptop with a touchscreen. Under the hood it has 8GB of RAM and an SSD so it's fast enough for daily use. Though it's several years old already, this Dell is extremely reliable and easy-to-repair.

NOTE! This laptop doesn't overheat but can run pretty hot. Therefore, it's best used on a desk and not your lap!

NOTE! The battery on this used laptop is untested and probably won't hold a charge for very long.

Linux OS

Linux is an open-source operating system, offering increased privacy and security. Linux computers receive security updates for decades and are easier to maintain, repair, and upgrade. This makes them immune from planned obsolescence. Linux computers are virtually immune to viruses too.

Why would you switch to linux? You might be concerned about how windows tracks you. Or maybe you're tired of buying a new mac every few years when your battery stops working? Maybe you don't want to see ads in your filemanager. Or you just don't like that it's possible for anyone to inject ads and trackers on a computer you paid for.

Linux comes in various distributions. These might be more or less user-friendly or customizable. They can come with different desktop environments which determine the appearance of the interface.

Gnome DE

Gnome is a mac-like desktop environment. It features a unified menu bar and applications dock. Gestures make it easy to open apps or switch workspaces. Anyone coming from a mac will fill at home with gnome. It's also a great pick for touchscreen displays.
